Operational Referendum Overview

The Oconto Unified School District community’s support in our last referendum made it possible for the district to sustain the everyday services that keep our schools strong. From transportation and classroom technology to student supports and maintaining reasonable class sizes, that operational authority has been essential.

Today, the district operates under a non-recurring $800,000 annual referendum, which will soon expire. To avoid reductions in services, the Board is discussing a continuation, not an expansion, of operating authority to ensure our schools can keep meeting student needs.

The plan being considered would provide $1.2 million per year for five years (non-recurring) to maintain programs, staffing levels, materials, and transportation.

What This Referendum Is

Our operational referendum provides funding for the everyday essentials that keep our schools running. This includes staff and instructional support, educational programs, transportation, classroom materials, and technology. It is not a facilities or building (bond) request.

What This Referendum Is Not

This is not a proposal to add new programs or new staff positions. Instead, it simply continues the funding needed for ongoing, day-to-day expenses and sustains current services and opportunities for students.
