Meet your nurses:

My name is Kaylee McFadden, and I am the LPN who serves all 3 schools in the district. I am from Oconto and cannot wait to help serve my community!  

My name is Betsy LeTourneau, and I am the OUSD Nurse Supervisor. I was also born and raised here in Oconto, and I’m excited to have the opportunity to work with your children and help keep our students healthy and thriving!

Our role as school nurses is to ensure that your child's health needs are met so that they can focus on learning. We will need your help to do this. Please review the following to ensure that the district is appropriately meeting your child's medical needs.

Over-the-Counter Medications

If you would like your child to receive any “as needed” medications throughout the school year, such as topical creams/ointments or oral medications, please fill out the “OTC Medication Permission Form.”  We cannot accept hand-written notes or emails as permission. The school has limited supplies, so it is your responsibility to send medication to school with the student in the original packaging with your child’s name written on it. 

Prescription Medications

If your child has a chronic disease or medical diagnosis that requires prescription medication to be administered at school, the “Prescription (Rx) Medication Permission Form” must be filled out by both the parent/guardian and the medical provider. The prescription medication needs to be dropped off at school in the office in the original bottle with the current prescription label on the bottle.

Immunizations

Please check with your child’s medical provider over the summer to be sure your child is current with their immunizations. You can also view your child’s immunization record online. You can check the immunization schedule and see Wisconsin's immunization requirements for school here.

If your child does not have the appropriate immunizations, he/she may be excluded from school. If you wish to sign a waiver for your child’s immunizations for medical, personal or religious reasons, please check the waiver box and provide a signature at the bottom.

Illness Procedure

The school nurse provides first aid and medical care primarily for illnesses or injuries that occur at the school during the school day.  The Health Center is not a primary care facility like a doctor’s office.  The nurse is qualified to collaborate with you and your child’s physician to provide an educational environment in which your child can learn and thrive.  The nurse can not make medical diagnoses prescribe treatments or medications, but can provide treatments and medications as prescribed by a physician with a doctor’s order.  Please tell your child to ask their teacher to see the nurse for evaluation if they are not feeling well at school. 

Illness/ Communicable Diseaes

In an effort to keep our student body as healthy as possible and in school, please refer to the following guidelines for when not to send your child to school:

• They have a fever of 100.3 F or higher within the last 24 hours

• They have vomited or have diarrhea within the last 24 hours

• If they have been diagnosed with a communicable disease such as strep throat or pink eye, they must have been on antibiotic treatment for 24 hours and fever-free (without fever-reducing medications) prior to returning to school.

Students must be fever-free (without fever-reducing medication) for 24 hours or have had no instances of diarrhea or vomiting for 24 hours prior to returning to school from any illness. 

Health Concerns

It is very important that the school be informed of any medical needs that your child may have. If your child has any medical diagnoses, we strongly encourage you to set up a meeting with us to discuss special instructions, emergency plans, and any accommodations needed within the school setting.
